New Update of an exisiting Photo Impression:
"Nécropole Nationale de Wisches".
I extended and I completely re-edited the already existing photo impression about the Northern Vosges, “Col de la Chipotte - Col de la Chapelotte - Col du Donon” with some period photos and some more details of German period maps of this sector. And, more important perhaps, at the end of this page I added more 2011 photos of the Donon and a series of my own photos of the remarkable and rather exceptional Nécropole Nationale de Wisches.
An interesting feature is the frame with the rare period photo of my friend, George Wylie, and his interesting comments on the outfit of some Donon Brigade officers.
Another nice feature of a different kind: the English Wikipedia linked last year in two different lemmas to this photo impression.
Next month, next release; German Bunkers - the Donon.
In February 2012, I will add an extensive photo impression about the German Bunkers at the western foot of the Donon mountain, Vosges.

First Warning: Sometimes on the battlefield you will still find relics of explosives. All these shells, hand grenades, and mortar rounds can even nowadays still be very dangerous. Some of the artillery bombs may contain poison gass, which can cause severe blistering or worse injuries. In France it is by law forbidden to remove relics from the battlefield. So, it is for your own safety: take a picture of the steel harvest, but leave these relics untouched!
Second Warning: Do not enter fortresses, bunkers, or tunnel systems without proper guidance or thorough preparation. This can be very dangerous. In many strongholds the walls and ceilings are unstable, and there might be shafts, until 40m. deep. Only recently, on 12 July 2009, a 25-year old, Swiss tourist was not cautious enough, and fell down one of these shafts of Fort de Souville near a Pamart bunker for about 20 m.! It took a special rescue team almost 3 hours to rescue this still lucky tourist!
